UMnet Backbone Upgrade

Posted May 1, 2002

An aggressive plan to upgrade the Ann Arbor campus UMnet backbone is well underway. This upgrade was one of several recommendations outlined by the President's Information Revolution Commission (PIRC). The use of and need for networked voice, data, and video services have been rising at exponential levels in recent years. The UMnet upgrade will enable University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus faculty, staff, and students from all disciplines to continue to fully participate in a vast range of research and communication projects. The upgrade will also provide the University community with continued and enhanced access to a wide array of voice, video, and data services.

For more information, please see the Spring 2002 UMnet Backbone Upgrade newsletter.
