On-Campus Backbone Connections

This service provides Units and Departments at the Ann Arbor Campus with a connection to one of three central networks, which interconnect them to the Internet, other computing services, and other Departments and Units on campus. There are various types and speeds of connections from which a department may select.

Ethernet 10 Mbps half-duplex AUI, RJ-45, Fiber
FastEthernet 100 Mbps half- or full-duplex MII, RJ-45, Fiber
FDDI 100 Mbps half-duplex DAS
ATM 155 Mbps full-duplex OC3c

Supported Protocols

There are four supported protocols that are routed over the Backbone which you may use to collaborate with others, these protocols are Internet Protocol (IP), AppleTalk, Novell's Internet Packet Exchange (IPX), and Banyan VINES IP. The DECnet protocol has been grandfathered in and is supported for those departments on campus already using it.
