On-Campus Backbone ConnectionsThis service provides Units and Departments at the Ann Arbor Campus with a connection to one of three central networks, which interconnect them to the Internet, other computing services, and other Departments and Units on campus. There are various types and speeds of connections from which a department may select.
Supported ProtocolsThere are four supported protocols that are routed over the Backbone which you may use to collaborate with others, these protocols are Internet Protocol (IP), AppleTalk, Novell's Internet Packet Exchange (IPX), and Banyan VINES IP. The DECnet protocol has been grandfathered in and is supported for those departments on campus already using it.
