Station Cable Checklist

July 1997 - Present

Questions from SLA

  • Are there less than ten cable pulls?
    • If so, this is a "Fastpath" order.
    • If not, this is a "Coordinated Request."

  • Is this a standard installation environment? If not, this SLA still applies but additional labor charges will be added to the flat rates. Examples of non-standard environments include:
    • Raised floor
    • Cable trays or conduits which are too full
    • Installation in modular furniture

  • Are there substantial barriers to commencement and/or completion of the work, including but not limited to:
    • Substantial construction requirements
    • Asbestos removal
    • Modular furniture construction
    • Other significant obstacles or events

  • Are there closets that are close enough so the length of cable will be 90 meters or less?

  • Is the nearest distribution frame on a different floor? If so, is there enough duct space?

Other Questions

  • What services will be using this cable? Will this cable handle them?

  • Has an order been submitted to attach whatever service(s) will be using the station cable?

  • Do we have access to the building the installation is being requested in?

  • Is this a University building?

  • If this is a large order, when will ITCom staff be available to install?

  • How long will the customer be in this building?

  • Generally we encourage the use of category 5, plenum wire.

  • Is this for the Hospital? If so, there is a certain specification used for them.

  • Does the customer want other cables, such a video, pulled at the same time?

  • Is this our standard telephone? If not, it may require special wiring.

  • Is the customer purchasing the telephones or are we leasing phones to them?
