Campus Buildings Cellular Survey

Information Technology Central Services, in partnership with the College of Engineering, the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Academic Emergency Communications Group, embarked on a major project this past spring to evaluate and improve cellular coverage inside U-M campus buildings. Although we have anecdotal information about the generally inadequate and intermittent quality of various cellular carriers' signals, there is no definitive data. We have hired C-Squared Systems to collect this information.

Beginning this week and running through mid-January, you may encounter C-Squared staff walking through and doing testing in all Ann Arbor campus buildings larger than 10,000 sq. feet, except the hospitals and health centers. All company representatives will wear identification and will have test gear and/or antenna systems with them. To complete the data collection process quickly, C-Squared employees will be working weekdays, weekends, and extended hours. There should be very little disruption to normal building activities.

Communications to your staff about the data collection process will be through your building's U-M Plant Operations contact. C-Squared will keep those individuals and the U-M Department of Public Safety apprised of its building survey schedule.
