Centrex Features and Dialing Instructions

Features When You Want... Procedures

Call Forwarding Variable

To have all your incoming calls ring at another phone within your business
to activate Listen for dial tone. Dial 118. Dial the number to receive your calls. Called phone will ring. Announce call forwarding. Hang up.
to activate when busy or no answer Hang up immediately. Your calls will be forwarded.
to cancel Listen for dial tone. Dial 119. Hang up.

Call Forwarding Variable (Outside)

To have all your incoming calls ring at another phone outside your business
to activate Listen for dial tone. Dial 118. Dial # 8 + outside number. Listen for confirmation tone and ringing. Announce call forwarding. Hang up.
to activate when busy or no answer Repeat above procedure within two minutes. Your calls will be forwarded.
to cancel Listen for dial tone. Dial 119. Hang up.

Call Hold

To put a call on hold
to look up information Depress switchhook. Dial 115. Lay receiver down. (Note 1)
to place another call Depress switchhook. Dial 115. Dial number. (Note 1)
to alternate between held calls Depress switchhook. Dial 115. Begin conversation. (Note 1)
to return to held call Hang up. Your phone will ring. Answer and resume conversation. (Note 4)

Call Pickup

To answer a ringing phone in your call pick-up group
to pick up from an idle phone Listen for dial tone. Dial 116. Begin conversation.
to hold a call and answer another call Depress switchhook. Dial 115. Dial 116. Begin conversation. (Note 2)
to alternate between held calls Depress switchhook. Dial 115. Begin conversation. (Note 1)
to return to held call Hang Up. Your phone will ring. Answer and resume conversation. (Note 4)

Call Waiting Signal

To answer a Call Waiting signal
to pick up from an idle phone Hang up. Your phone will ring. Answer and begin conversation. (Note 4)
to hold a call and answer another call (Note 3) Depress switchhook. Dial 115. Begin conversation. (Note 2)
to alternate between held calls (Note 3) Depress switchhook. Dial 115. Begin conversation. (Note 1)
to send call and return to held call Hang Up. Your phone will ring. Answer and resume conversation. (Note 4)

Speed Calling

to record or change a number Listen for dial tone. Dial 74 or 75. Listen for steady dial tone. Dial Speed Call Code + phone number. Listen for 2 short bursts of tone.
to reach a number Listen for dial tone. Dial the Speed Call Code (Note 8)

Threeway Conversation

To add a third party to existing call
to add a third party Depress switchhook. Dial third party. Party answers. Depress switchhook. Begin converstaion. (Note 5)
to drop one of the parties Anyone of the three parties can hang up. Remaining two parties can converse. (Note 4 and Note 8)

To Consult

To consult privately with a third party

to hold a call and consult Depress switchhook momentarily and release. Dial third party. When they answer you may converse. (Note 5)
to return to original party Wait for third party to hang up. Depress switchhook twice and resume conversation. (Note 4)

Transfer

To transfer a call

to transfer a call to a third party Depress switchhook momentarily and release. Dial third party. When they answer, announce the call and hang up. (Note 5 and Note 6)

NOTES:

  1. Your present call is on hold.
  2. Your present call is on hold and the incoming call is put through to your line.
  3. If a Centrex Station does not have the call hold feature, depress the switchhook and connect the second call. To alternate between held calls, just depress the switchhook.
  4. The other party is disconnected.
  5. If the third number is busy, or does not answer, depress the switchhook twice to be reconnected to your original party.
  6. One of the remaining parties must be within the Centrex system.
  7. With TRUNK ANSWER NIGHT BELL, you can use Centrex features provided for your extension number.
  8. Systems equipped with Touch-Tone should dial the # symbol to speed up call completion.

switchhook are the buttons or button where the handset rests when not in use. The term switchhook may also refer to one of the following buttons on your phone: RCL, LINK, TRANSFER, LINE RECALL.
