Northwood DSL Network Service
Conditions of Use
I understand that as a condition of activation of the Northwood DSL Network Service, I am required to agree to the following Conditions of Use:
- I am responsible for my use of this service and for the use by others of the service I acquire.
I will not perform any action that would impair the functions of the physical network (for example, vandalism of jack, wiring, or other network equipment, or purposeful miswiring).
I will not provide access to any University resource for those not rightfully due such access (for example, providing wired or wireless network access through my computer, mirroring University-sponsored resources).
I will not operate a service that redistributes a University resource to others for any fee or other consideration.
I will not use my network connection to run a commercial enterprise or to support other activities designed to provide me with income or other consideration.
I will not perform any action that denies another network user access to network resources (anything that might result in degraded performance for another user, such as mass mailing, denial of service actions).
Because of the limitations of network capacity, I will not operate servers or other services that make high demands upon public network resources. I understand that servers and other services are only permitted if they utilize a sufficiently small portion of network resources and contain material created solely by the author or team including the author (I may not, for example, mirror Internet sites or distribute copyrighted materials).
I am aware that as a condition of connecting my system to the network, my system may be subject to network monitoring to ensure the security and reliability of the network. This may include, but is not limited to, network usage monitoring, and virus and security exploit checking.
I will observe all other applicable regulations regarding information technology resources including policies established by the University, our Internet Service Provider (Merit Network, Inc.), and our Network Operator (Information Technology Central Services).
Violation of any of these Conditions of Use will be sufficient grounds for the suspension and/or termination of service and possible referral to other sanctioning or law enforcement units. The examples provided above are not intended to be an exhaustive list of actions that might violate these Conditions of Use.
