National Do Not Call Registry

Residence Halls, Northwood Community Apartments, Lawyers Club

Residence Halls, Northwood Community Apartments, Lawyers Club U-M students living in a University Housing residence are able to register their phone number in the National Do Not Call Registry. However, this can only be done via the official National Do Not Call Registry web site.

It is not possible to register a University Housing residential telephone number using the National Do Not Call Registry 800 number.

Be aware that once a U-M phone number has been entered into the National Do Not Call Registry it will not be removed. Therefore, it will be possible for a previous resident to have already registered your phone number. You can check the status of your telephone number on the National Do Not Call Registry web site.

The National Do Not Call Registry gives you an opportunity to limit the telemarketing calls you receive. Since October 1, 2003, the National Do Not Call Registry has required most telemarketers to remove the numbers on the registry from their call lists. This stops most, but not all, telemarketing calls. You may still receive calls from political organizations, charities, telephone surveyors or companies with which you have an existing business relationship.

On June 17, 2008, the Federal Communications Commission amended Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) rules to require telemarketers to honor registrations on the national Do-Not-Call list indefinitely, so that registrations will no longer expire after five years. Under the revised rules, numbers will remain on the national do-not-call list unless the consumer removes his or her number or discontinues service. Consumers will no longer need to re-register their numbers on the national do-not-call list every five years.

For information concerning a wireless 411 directory and the use of cellular telephone numbers by telemarketers, see Unwanted Telephone Marketing Calls and The Truth About Wireless Phones and the National Do-Not-Call List.
