Telephone and Number
Your Telephone
Residence Hall students are provided one wall telephone and line per room.
Northwood III students are provided one desk telephone and line per apartment.
Northwood I, II, IV, V students are provided one telephone line per apartment.
Lawyers Club students are provided one desk telephone and line per student.
If your phone or line is not working (no dial tone, cannot dial out), contact Telephone Repair at 647-8888.
Your Telephone Number (734-565-xxxx)
Each telephone line has a number in the 734 area code and the 565 exchange. The 565 exchange uses a dialing pattern "just like home." That is, you dial all 7 digits to reach a local or campus number. You do not need to dial a "9" to get an outside line.
See Dialing Information for other instructions, including how to make long distance calls.
Residence Hall and Lawyers Club Telecommunications Outlet Panel
Below each Residence Hall telephone is a telecommunications outlet panel. The top outlet is for connecting (to the phone line) a telephone device with an RJ-11 phone cable, such as a second telephone, a modem, an answering machine, a fax machine, or a caller ID display box.
The bottom outlets (usually two) are for connecting computers to the Ethernet/Internet with an RJ-45 Ethernet cable. If you wish to connect a computer to one of these outlets, you need to contact
ResComp (Residential Computing). Rooms in the Lawyers Club have a similar telecommunications outlet panel, but the room phone is already plugged in to the phone outlet.
Northwood DSL Network Service
Attached to the wall near each Northwood telephone is a DSL modem for connecting a computer to the Internet. The DSL modem is already activated but you will need to register your computer on the network. DSL modem instructions are in the Northwood DSL Networking Guide at Northwood DSL Network Service.
