Wireless (WiFi) access provided by ITS is available to all who have a valid University of Michigan uniqname and UMICH password.
For information about the WiFi access and locations provided by ITS—as well as other units on campus—see U-M WiFi locations.
To use a WiFi network provided by ITS, choose one of the following:
MWireless is the most secure WiFi network and should be used by all U-M faculty, staff, students and sponsored guests. Before using the service, you will need to configure settings on your WiFi device. See Connecting to MWireless and UM Wireless Network.
Trouble connecting to MWireless?
UM Wireless Network should be used by U-M faculty, staff, students and sponsored guests if the device they are using does not meet 802.1x/WPA2 technical standards. To access UM Wireless Network launch a web browser then enter your uniqname and UMICH password.
MGuest is provided for University of Michigan visitors. It is an open network, no encryption is provided by the network. It is a limited network and is treated like a non-UM network. It is available where MWireless and UM Wireless Network are available.
WiFi technology is still relatively insecure. By using UM Wireless Network or MGuest you are accepting that it is possible for others within range to use an application to intercept the information you send and receive through the network. See Security & Usage Issues.
