MGuest WiFi Network

MWireless is available and the preferred WiFi network for U-M students, faculty, staff and sponsored guest use.

MGuest is a limited WiFi network for University of Michigan guests.

Internet Explorer 9 is not supported on the MGuest WiFi Network. If you use IE9, your device will connect, but it will be redirected back to the login page and not your home page.

To access MGuest:

1. Connect to the MGuest WiFi network

2. Open a web browser; the MGuest welcome page will appear

3. Enter your email address and agree to terms to gain network access.

By using this resource, you implicitly agree to abide by the highest standards of responsibility. You are required to comply with all University policies, state and federal laws concerning appropriate use of information technology. Non-compliance is considered a serious breach of community standards and may result in disciplinary or legal action.

Notes on Limited Guest Access

MGuest is limited to web (http), secure web (https) secure mail services (IMAPS, POPS, SMTPS) and VPN services:

• HTTP 80
• HTTPS 443 (TLS/SSL)
• POP3s 995 (TLS/SSL)
• IMAPs 993 (TLS/SSL)
• SMTPs 465 (TLS/SSL)
• Mail Submission (MSA) port 587
• Secure Shell (SSH) port 22
• Google Talk and the Play store port 5228

VPN access via the following ports is allowed:

• Protocol 47, 50 and 51
• port 500
• port 1701
• UDP port 4500
• UDP port 10000

MGuest is rate limited to 1Mbps down and 384kbps upload speeds.

MGuest is treated like a non-UM network; some U-M resource such as library journals cannot be accessed.
